Are MRI Fusion Biopsies Necessary for Urologists? – Summary:

Jelle Barentsz, MD, PhD, professor of radiology at the Nijmegen Medical Center of Radboud University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, discusses whether or not fusion biopsies are necessary for urologists to perform. He highlights the importance of a physician’s experience with MRIs in making this determination. If a urologist does not feel confident reading the images, it is best to ask a radiologist for help. Dr. Barentsz notes the advantages of working with a multidisciplinary team. He also covers some of the limitations of fusion biopsies.
