Evis Sala, MD, PhD, FRCR, FRCP, is a Professor of Radiology at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, Italy. Dr. Sala also serves as a Minister of Health and Social Welfare for the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Tirana, Albania. Additionally, she serves as Chair for Fondazione Policlinico Universitari Agostino Gemelli IRCC’s Department of Radiology in Rome, Italy. Dr. Sala’s research in the field of radiogenomics integrates quantitative imaging methods for the evaluation of spatial and temporal tumour heterogeneity with genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Additionally, she researches developing and validating functional imaging biomarkers that use physiologic and metabolic tumor habitat imaging to rapidly assess treatment response.
Dr. Sala earned her medical degree from the University of Tirana in Albania. She then earned her master’s and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Dr. Sala completed fellowships in Cancer Research and Cancer Epidemiology at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Sala is leading multiple research projects focusing on the development and implementation of artificial intelligence methods for image reconstruction, segmentation, and data integration. In recognition of her contribution to education and research in oncological imaging, she received the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) Honoured Educator Award in 2014, 2017, and 2020, was elected Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine in 2015, and was awarded an Honorary Membership of RSNA in 2022. She has authored and co-authored over 360 publications and serves as an associate editor of Cancer Research Communications and a senior consulting editor to Radiology: Artificial Intelligence.
