Xavier Golay, MS, PhD, is the Founder and CEO of Gold Standard Phantoms in Sheffield, England. Dr. Golay also serves as the Director of Quantitative Imaging at Bioxydyn Limited and an Honorary Professor of MRI Physics at the University College London in England. His research interests include the development of MRI as a translational tool for neurological diseases, measuring identical image-based biomarkers from mouse to human, and from the laboratory to the clinical settings.
Dr. Golay earned a Master of Science in Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne in Switzerland. He then served as a research assistant under Professor Peter Boesiger, earning his PhD on Functional MRI, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich in Switzerland. Dr. Golay continued as a post-doctoral fellow in Zurich and pioneered the use of SENSE parallel imaging technique in fMRI. Afterwhich, he served as a post-doctoral fellow under Professor Peter van Zijl, studying neuroimaging and spectroscopy at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Golay has authored over 330 publications and has served as a past member of the Editorial boards of Magnetic Resonance Materials in Physics, Medicine and Biology and NMR in Biomedicine. He is a Fellow of both the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology. After successfully chairing a European Cooperation in Science and Technology Action from 2011 to 2015 to coordinate the development of arterial spin labelling as a biomarker in dementia in 18 European countries, Dr. Golay received and coordinated an EC H2020 grant (€6.5M) to develop and move the GlucoCEST technique from bench to bedside. He is considered a leader in his field and has frequently been invited as a lecturer and teacher at major international and national conferences.
