Thomas F. Stringer, MD, FACS, is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Urology at the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville. Dr. Stringer assumed the role of Medical Director of the UF Department of Urology Clinics in 2011 following a long career as the managing partner of a large urology group practice as well as an adjunct professor in the department. Dr. Stringer subsequently served as interim department chairman from 2014 to 2016 and most recently as Associate Chairman of Philanthropy and Alumni Affairs. Dr. Stringer was honored with the 2016 UF Department of Urology Resident Teaching Award.
Dr. Stringer received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He completed his residency in surgery and urology at the UF College of Medicine in 1980.
Dr. Stringer has been a member of the AUA since 1984. He has served the AUA in multiple roles including as the SESAUA representative to the AUA board from 2014-2019. He also served as AUA Treasurer from 2020-2025 and will begin a three year term of service as President Elect in 2026. In 2010, he was awarded the AUA's prestigious Presidential Citation. He is past-president of the Florida Urological Society (2006-2007) as well as the Southeastern Section of the AUA (2009 – 2010). He writes and lectures nationally on the business of urology.
