Complications of Robotic Prostatectomy: Incidence, Predictors, Prevention, and Management – Summary

Jay D. Raman, MD, outlines the common complications observed in robotic prostatectomy, including urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and anastomotic strictures. He provides statistical data on the incidence of these complications, highlighting variations based on patient demographics and surgical experience.

Identifying predictors of complications is a key focus, with Dr. Raman discussing patient comorbidities, prostate size, and preoperative functional status. He also addresses the role of surgical technique and the learning curve associated with robotic prostatectomy in influencing outcomes.

Preventive measures are explored, including preoperative optimization of patient health, advanced imaging techniques for precise surgical planning, and intraoperative technologies to enhance surgical precision. Dr. Raman discusses the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in managing complications, involving urologists, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
