Brian W. Cross, MD, Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, discusses chemotherapy options in patients undergoing nephroureterectomy (NU). He goes on to discuss the advantages of perioperative chemotherapy following NU, the role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with high-risk upper tract urothelial carcinoma prior to NU, and surgical techniques for the management of the distal ureter during NU.

The Prostate & Urologic Cancers Symposium is held through the University of Oklahoma and the Stephenson Cancer Center to provide new insights in the treatment of prostate and urologic cancers. This single-day program consists of lectures and case discussions highlighting a multidisciplinary approach to urologic cancer care and integration of new technology in the evaluation and treatment of patients with prostate and/or urologic cancers. Dr. Cross presented this lecture during the 5th iteration of this summit in 2019.

Brian W. Cross, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Urologic Oncology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine (OU Medicine) in Oklahoma City. Following the completion of his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Cross earned his MD from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He then completed his Residency in Urologic Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and his Urologic Oncology Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Cross treats all urologic cancers (adrenal, kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, urethra, penile, and testis) utilizing both open and minimally-invasive techniques. He has a particular interest in complex open surgery for advanced retroperitoneal and pelvic malignancies, including complex renal tumors, locally-advanced kidney cancer, and re-operative abdominal surgery. Dr. Cross holds memberships in the Society of Urologic Oncology and the American Urological Association, and serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. He has authored numerous publications, abstracts, and book chapters, including chapters on molecular markers in kidney cancer, and surgical atlas chapters on open radical prostatectomy.
