Optilume for BPH – Summary

Sunchin Kim, MD, offers an in-depth exploration of OptilumeⓇ, a novel therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In this 9-minute presentation, Dr. Kim shares that, unlike traditional methods involving cutting, heating, or implantation, this approach seeks to reduce patient anxiety and streamline treatment.

Dr. Kim summarizes the Optilume therapy, including the dilation balloon, paclitaxel drug coating, and placement marker band, giving a detailed explanation of each feature, and summarizes the procedural steps. He references the EVEREST and PINNACLE trials, which evaluate Optilume’s efficacy and durability. Statistically, Optilume shows significant benefits over placebo, including marked increases in Qmax flow rates and reduced post-void residuals.

This concise yet comprehensive overview highlights the potential of Optilume as a well-tolerated, effective option for BPH treatment, particularly for patients seeking alternatives to traditional invasive procedures.
