Updates On Stress Urinary Incontinence: From Office to OR – Summary

Katherine Amin, MD, provides an in-depth discussion on stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and its treatment options, ranging from conservative to surgical interventions.  In this 18-minute presentation, Dr. Amin explains that with 50% of women experiencing SUI, accurate assessment and tailored treatment are crucial.

Pelvic floor muscle training remains a primary non-surgical intervention, significantly improving symptom control. Urethral bulking agents, particularly Bulkamid, have gained traction due to their minimally invasive nature and effectiveness. Synthetic midurethral slings remain the gold standard, offering long-term durability with high success rates. While single-incision slings offer a quicker, less invasive option, long-term data remain limited.

Dr. Amin emphasizes the importance of shared decision-making, ensuring treatment aligns with patient goals, whether focused on symptom relief or complete resolution.
