Michael Coburn, MD, FACS, is Professor and Russel and Mary Hugh Scott Chair in Urology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. His clinical and research interests focus on urologic trauma, genital and urethral reconstructive surgery, and sexual and reproductive dysfunction.

Dr. Coburn earned his medical degree at New York University in New York City, then completed an internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He then pursued fellowship training at Baylor as a scholar of the American Foundation for Urologic Disease. He has served as Chief of Urology at Ben Taub Hospital and as the urology representative on the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, where he served as Chair of the Advocacy and Health Policy Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee. Dr. Coburn has also served as President of the Society of Genito-Urinary Reconstructive Surgeons and is a former Chair of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Residency Review Committee for Urology.

Dr. Coburn is the recipient of many awards for his educational and clinical work, including the Dean of Medical Education’s Service Award in Appreciation for Outstanding Dedication and Service to the Educational Mission in Faculty Development (Baylor College of Medicine, 2008). He is a member of numerous groups and societies, including the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons, the executive committee of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, and he serves as Vice-Chair of Baylor College of Medicine’s Faculty Group Practice.
